The great thing about running your own business is that you have the freedom the manage your time to suit your lifestyle. 

This is especially true for James Barnett, an entrepreneur from Skewen. He is waiting for a kidney transplant and requires dialysis three times a week.  

With traditional employment made more difficult with frequent hospital visits, James now has a flexible work schedule after starting his own will-writing and estate planning business. 

Glamorgan Legacy Ltd was inspired by his own life experiences. After losing both his parents at a young age, James experienced first-hand the importance of a well-written will. 

He said: “I asked several my friends and found out that not a single person had written a will despite most of them having children and houses. 

“I saw first-hand what a difference a well written will makes and how, without one, it can cause so much heartache and stress to the families.” 

With previous jobs in accounting and sales, as well as a long career in The Army Reserve, James had all the skills needed to be a successful businessman. However, he was not sure of what funding was available for start-ups, so he came to PRIME Cymru for support. He was paired with Development Officer Debbie Price, who is an expert in all things business. 

James said: “I would absolutely recommend getting support. Debbie has been a great help. More than anything it’s nice to know someone is there to ask questions and checks in on you regularly to make sure you’re OK and remind you of things you have to do.”
