PRIME Cymru Volunteer Mentor, Brian Birtles, expertly observes that “many of us face changes to our career path. This may be due to redundancy, ill health or personal choice. What really matters is how we face the future and shape it ourselves.”
This is true for Brian’s mentee, Clive Williams, whose ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) diagnosis meant he had to take an early retirement from teaching, which he loved.
Despite this unexpected curveball, Clive has forged a new career that suits his needs and is using his experience to help others too.
Clive said: “I decided that fighting the illness wasn’t productive, so I learnt to adapt.
“I could not accept that I was not employable, although there have been days when moving around the house at will was not possible.”
This was where Brian came in, to support Clive in finding the next direction on his career path.
Brian said: “As Clive’s mentor, I helped him to explore the myriad of options available and found the path that most interested him.”
Clive came across Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy, the benefits of which he found to be amazing.
He said: “Hypnotherapy is appealing to me because it can greatly speed up the therapeutic process, whilst giving people the tools that they can use throughout the rest of their lives.”
Clive is now very close to completing his Level 5 Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy course and has launched his own business offering online hypnotherapy, www.williamstherapeutic.uk. His sessions will support clients with a range of issues, including easing anxiety, breaking habits and overcoming fears. You can contact Clive on 07717573327 or email clive@williamstherapeutic.uk.
He said:
“I tell everyone about PRIME Cymru.”
“I can’t tell you how much of a help Brian has been to me. He’s been absolutely fantastic – he was talking to me lots while I was getting my head round things then gradually came to the conclusion that I could use my experience to help other people.”
