Volunteers Week – Carol secures role with the Parish Trust

Volunteers’ Week celebrates the amazing contributions volunteers make to communities across the UK. At PRIME Cymru, we encourage clients to pursue volunteering positions as a way of staying active, gaining new skills and boosting confidence.

After meeting Carol Davies at a jobs fair, Development Officer Mike Evans helped Carol to secure a role with her local organisation, The Parish Trust.

Carol, aged 64, had been working in a local school kitchen, but her arthritis made it difficult to keep up in the fast-paced environment. At home, unable to work, Carol began to feel isolated.

She said: “I wanted to try volunteering to see how far I could push myself, without the pressure of it being a job.”

As Carol had no internet, Mike helped her to get in touch with the organisation and apply for the role.

The Parish Trust runs various projects to benefit the community of Caerphilly. Carol has been helping with coffee mornings and food banks.

She said: “I’m really enjoying it. It’s nice to be out and meeting new people.

“Mike has been really helpful and has kept in touch to ask how I’m getting on.”
