PRIME Cymru trustee, Stephen West, will be running 200 miles across South Wales to raise money for the charity.
The ‘Wild Horse 200’ route will take him along Offa’s Dyke, traversing the Beacons Way and then onto the Heart of Wales Line onto the Wales Coastal Path to finish at Worm’s Head.
Starting at 6am on Wednesday 13th April, Steve will have 120 hours (5 days) to complete the 200 miles – which will feature 30,187 feet of climbing!
It is all in aid of PRIME Cymru – founded by HRH The Prince of Wales – which supports older workers back into employment, self-employment volunteering or training.
Our free, one-to-one support across Wales includes helping clients to take stock of their situation, identify their strengths, explore financial options, improve their CV and prepare for interviews. We also run a mentoring scheme, with business experts from across the world volunteering to support clients to become self-employed.
In January 2020, Steve decided he wanted to give back and became a trustee for the charity. He now passionately supports our work helping people to become economically active.
Steve is a regular ultra-marathon runner, but this will be the longest run he has ever embarked upon.
He said: “This is different, this is scary! I don’t know if this is doable, but I’m going to try, and these donations will help keep me going when times get tough.
“I strongly believe in PRIME Cymru’s work – it often starts with basics. Confidence, social skills and communication. We take internet and email communication for granted in the world of work these days, but often our clients at PRIME Cymru don’t have a computer, or a smart phone. How do you look for jobs if you don’t know how to use the internet?”
PRIME Cymru Chief Executive, David Pugh, said: “It’s fantastic to have one of our brilliant trustees committing to raise money for the critical support we provide to our clients in Wales. Steve’s 200-mile gruelling marathon represents a huge challenge both physically and mentally and we are so proud of what he’s doing for us and all at PRIME Cymru wish him the very best of luck – go Steve!”
