Music has always been a huge part of Steve Manley’s life.
“Music’s always been important to me,” he said. “I was a teacher for many, many years. I taught with my guitar – we taught through music. We encouraged young people to love music and to have a passion for something.”
After years in the classroom, Steve decided it was time for a new direction. He opened Thirtythree45, a record shop in Neath, turning a lifelong passion into a new career.
The shop has proved a hit with locals in its first few weeks, and Steve already has plans to transform the upstairs space into a community hub. Thirtythree45 champions local musicians too, hosting live gigs and selling merchandise to support grassroots talent.
Steve was supported in the early stages of his business journey by PRIME Cymru Development Officer Tracy Eynon, who connected him with Volunteer Business Mentor Nick Carruthers. Nick worked closely with Steve in the lead-up to the shop’s opening, helping him turn his vision into reality.
“PRIME Cymru have been really helpful in driving the business side forward,” Steve said. “There isn’t a lot of one-to-one support out there for the over-50s where you can sit down face-to-face with someone.”
