CV Support for Sayda

Sayda holds her volunteering award

PRIME Cymru offers a wide range of services to help clients secure employment or set up in business, including interview practise, support with business planning, one-to-one business mentoring, and help identifying relevant training or volunteering opportunities.

One of the first areas PRIME Cymru Development Officers focus on when helping with employment is a client’s CV. Ensuring that CVs are up to date and tailored to specific roles is essential. A particularly effective exercise is identifying transferable skills and key achievements, which not only strengthens a CV but also significantly boosts clients’ confidence.

Development Officer Mike Evans explained: “Many of our clients haven’t updated their CVs for some time, so this process gives them the opportunity to reflect on the breadth of experience they’ve gained. Often, they don’t realise just how many valuable, transferable skills they already have that can be applied to a new role.”

Mike recently supported Sayda Ibrahim, whom he met at a Jobcentre in Cardiff, with updating her CV.

Sayda brings a wealth of experience from her career with the United Nations, where she worked in procurement, project control, and asset management. Alongside this, she works freelance as an Arabic translator.

She is also highly active in her local community, volunteering as an interpreter, supporting friends with university studies, and helping to connect women in her area through group activities.

Mike worked with Sayda to identify and clearly showcase the full range of skills and experience she has developed through both her professional career and voluntary work, ensuring her CV highlighted these as strong assets to potential employers.

Sayda said: “My CV now looks much more professional and better reflects my qualifications, experience, and skills. I feel more confident applying for jobs, and I hope this will increase my chances of finding work.”

PRIME Cymru continues to help people across Wales to build confidence, recognise their strengths, and move towards new employment, self-employment, or volunteering opportunities.
