Jade Wilkinson always wanted to work in hair and beauty, but the timing was never right. Nearly a decade after studying hairdressing, she’s finally entering the industry she loves.
Starting out as self-employed is never easy, so having someone there for guidance can be a great help.
“It’s quite daunting but when you’ve got support there it makes a massive difference”, said Jade.
“I don’t know where I’d be if I hadn’t met Caroline. She’s given me so much confidence and I’ve realised that becoming self-employed can be an easy process with the right support.”
PRIME Cymru Development Officer, Caroline Allen, has been working with Jade throughout her self-employment journey, offering moral support, encouragement and helping her to secure a business grant.
Jade said: “If Caroline didn’t have the answer, she would point me in the direction of someone who did. For example, she arranged a meeting with Citizens Advice, came with me to the meeting and helped me ask the right questions.
“I don’t know where I’d be if I hadn’t met Caroline. She’s given me so much confidence and I’ve realised that becoming self-employed can be an easy process with the right support.”
Jade now hopes to finish her hairdressing studies, build up her client base and one day open a salon of her own!
