A new direction for one man and his van

Paul, from Abergavenny, has started up a small house clearance/removal and office relocation business with the support of PRIME Cymru.

Paul, an ex- publican who used to use his van to collect stock from the cash and carry, came up with the idea for his business after leaving the hospitality industry and found himself having to furnish his new home with limited funds.

Paul will clear houses and sell the re-usable items on to others at a reasonable price.  He will also take on small home or office moves and collection and delivery of items for individuals. Paul started off in his local area but is hoping to expand the area in which he operates in the future.

The mentor who supported Paul is Derek Duddridge of HSBC.  Derek joined PRIME Cymru as a mentor in March 2011 as part of the Business Finance Taskforce Mentoring Portal.  Derek is helping Paul look at ways to utilise his time to best advantage.

When asked what support Derek had given him, Paul said “Derek helped me look at the bigger picture to maximise my service to its fullest potential.  He asked me things I hadn’t considered, including asking other businesses in the area if I could cover holiday or sickness absences, this hadn’t even occurred to me!”
