Barbara secured paid employment at the National Botanic Garden of Wales

PRIME Cymru helped Barbara write her first CV – at the age of 74 – which led to her securing paid employment at the National Botanic Garden of Wales.

“I had never needed a CV for my previous jobs as they were all based on application forms plus I was in a sector that I had a lot of experience in. PRIME Cymru supported me by helping me to focus on what it was that I was actually trying to achieve, not just what I could do. Together we looked at my transferable skills like my experience of working with people and I succeeded in gaining this job which suits me perfectly.”

Barbara is a lively 75 year old, whose energy and enthusiasm would put many people a lot younger than her to shame. As she says: “age is just a number. The secret to having plenty of energy and vitality is to think that you CAN – and don’t let other people tell you otherwise. I learned to dive at 72 years old, which was a fabulous experience. We’ve all been encouraged to think life stops at retirement age but it’s simply not so”.
